BACK FROM A HACK – THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE HACK

BACK FROM A HACK – THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE HACK

It is said that for every adversity, there is always a hidden opportunity.  Instead of wallowing in despair, I tried to look at ways to turn the situation into a positive one. I am not the kind of person who licks his wounds too long.

On the positive side, the hack provided me a lot of time that I usually spend in Facebook.  Looking back, some of those times may not have been productive after all – reading posts about quarrels among trading gurus trying to beat each other for prospective client’s attention, observing hyping done by some individuals for some stocks “going to the moon,” senseless arguments about which trading system is better, getting pissed at traders who claim to have every stock that goes up, not to mention posts that are not relevant to trading at all.

During the time that I abstained from Facebook, I spent more time  on things I really enjoy.

I was able to play with my first grandson and spend time with him. You probably remember him from my post with my first book.

I saw my new grandson (from my daughter that is second to the eldest) grow up and saw the milestones in his development  – his first smile, his first word, the first time he took a sitting position and his first attempts at walking. Actually, I have not seen these milestones from any of my children. As an executive working in the corporate world, I have to leave  home  early when they are still sleeping and when I come home from the office they have already gone to bed. I only got to spend time with them during weekends.

Being away from Facebook also gave me the much needed quiet time to finish the book that I am writing – “Swing Trading with TRT.”  For a writer like me,  a large chunk of quiet uninterrupted time is priceless.  It is during those times that you are most productive. Sometimes ideas come in trickles. Sometimes they come in spurts just like water flowing from a faucet.  During those times, you need to really focus and just write whatever comes to your mind without regard to grammar or context.   You just edit when the flow of ideas have subsided.  After several review and revisions I was finally able to finish my work.

Last but not least,   it gave me the opportunity to go back to my physical and mental fitness regime.  For physical fitness,  I was able to resume my strength, flexibility and cardio program.  Even though I have my personal gym at home, my “busyness” prevented me from doing so. For mental fitness, I was able to resume my chess training program.  My chess training program is designed to develop new neural connections in my brain. Both enabled me to come back from the hack physically and mentally fit.  You need physical and mental fitness to excel both in trading and in chess.

Nothing happens in life without a purpose. For every adversity, there is always an opportunity. You just have to look deeper into the situation and see the silver lining in the dark sky that you are currently confronted with.

Good luck on all your trades.
